“Creative Storying of Space, Place and Time: The National Museums of Singapore”

Singapore has four national museums, namely the Asian Civilisations Museum, the National Gallery, the National Museum of Singapore and the Singapore Art Museum. They each focuses on different aspects of Singaporean and Southeast art and history. Inevitably their stories overlap, and there are gaps. Professor Ooi will talk about the overlaps and gaps in how space, place and time are weaved together in these four museums. These stories inform us of how the Singaporean authorities see the region, and how the island-state attempts to claim a central cultural role in Southeast Asia.
